A Trademark Engine order and a USPTO trademark application are related but separate records. Before filing, the order may move through information collection, conflict checks, preparation, attorney or legal-team review where applicable, customer approval, fee collection, and electronic signature. The USPTO process begins only after the application is actually submitted to the government.
After filing, the USPTO assigns a serial number. That serial number is the government's unique identifier for the application and can be used to view the official record in the Trademark Status and Document Retrieval system (TSDR). Internal order statuses can differ from TSDR because the systems track different parts of the process.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is the federal agency responsible for examining U.S. trademark applications, issuing federal registrations, and maintaining official trademark records.
An Office Action is a formal written notice from the USPTO explaining a legal refusal, procedural requirement, or other issue that must be addressed before the application can continue.
